Merge™ MID
The Merge MID is a custom prosthesis designed for middle-phalanx limb differences of digits 2–5. It uses the remaining proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint motion to drive and reproduce distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint motion. As the residual finger bends and straightens, the prosthesis moves through flexion and extension for intuitive, body-powered control.
Its anatomical, low-profile design supports natural movement and comfortable, everyday function. The FlexRing Entry System and flexible suspension expand during donning to conform around the residual finger for a secure, adaptive fit. Durable titanium, stainless steel, and nylon components provide dependable performance and easy serviceability. Our guided measurement and ordering process speeds up delivery of custom prostheses, helping people get back in action sooner.
Compact profile. Natural motion. Everyday reliability.
Merge MID uses remaining motion at the PIP joint to restore intuitive, body-powered flexion and extension of the DIP joint in a low-profile durable custom prosthesis designed for everyday use.
Is Merge MID appropriate for my patient?
Merge MID is intended for people with amputations through the middle phalanx of digits 2–5 who retain enough residual length and active PIP motion to drive the prosthesis. A Point Designs review of clinician-provided measurements and photographs helps confirm candidacy.
Criteria:
- Digits 2-5
- At least ~40% remaining middle segment length (~15–20mm)
- At least 45° active PIP range of motion
Low-profile: A streamlined design that follows the natural anatomy for a low profile fit.
Durable & Serviceable:
- Durable materials support dependable everyday performance.
- Intentionally designed for easy service and maintenance.
Adaptive Fit: Dynamic proximal ring and elastic middle-phalanx bands adapt to support a secure, comfortable fit for a variety of patient presentations.
Streamlined Clinical Workflow: A guided measurement and ordering process enabling faster delivery of a custom fabricated prosthesis.
Ring Sizing Kit: Select the appropriate ring size to ensure a secure, comfortable fit. A sizing kit is included with your first prosthesis order, and additional replacement kits are available.
Measurement Mat: Use the provided measurement mat as a background to photograph the patient’s hands so that all required measurements are captured to guide the custom fabrication of the prosthesis. Submit the photos to [email protected] along with the Order Form.
Caliper: Use the caliper to record precise finger dimensions needed for fabrication. Submit all measurements through the Order Form to begin your custom order.
Indicated digits: Digits 2-5
Amputation level: Through the middle phalanx
Residual length: ~15–20 mm candidacy range; DIP disarticulation is okay if within size range
Required motion: At least 45° active PIP range of motion.
Suspension: Dynamic proximal ring and elastic middle-phalanx bands
Fingertip: Touchscreen-compatible and field replaceable
Sizing/configuration: Custom prosthesis using clinician-provided measurements and photographs
Service life: 3 years
To operate the Merge MID, flex and extend the residual finger at the PIP joint to articulate the prosthesis through its available range of motion.
Donning
- Squeeze the FlexRing entry paddles to open the prosthesis, then slide the residual finger between the two elastic suspension bands until the prosthesis fits securely and snugly.
Doffing
- Squeeze the FlexRing entry paddles to release the fit, then gently slide the prosthesis off the residual finger.
Servicing
- Extra fingertip pads and elastic suspension bands are included and can be easily removed and replaced if they become worn or damaged.
