Point Thumb
The Point Thumb is a heavy-duty, mechanical articulating prosthetic thumb designed to be both lightweight and strong, using a novel ratcheting mechanism to lock into 11 unique positions of flexion. Our thumb prosthesis is a mechanical device with robust construction designed for people who have lost their thumb at or near the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint.
Point Designs’ prosthetic thumb is designed for patients with thumb loss who require a durable device, one-handed operation, and various levels of flexion. The prosthesis is made of titanium and stainless steel.

To operate the Point Thumb, the user positions the thumb into one of the 11 locking levels of flexion by pushing the dorsal side against an opposing surface (e.g., table, thigh, etc.). The device locks into place automatically, enabling the individual to perform their desired task.
There are two methods to extend the digit:
- Press the button on the dorsal side of the thumb
- Fully flex the thumb to engage the auto spring back feature (single-handed use)
Mounting Kit
The Point Thumb mounting kit is a separately purchased, required component, in order to align and integrate the Point Thumb into a prosthesis and retain the respectively published load rating.

The Point Thumb – OI is a mechanical prosthetic thumb that interfaces with osseointegrated implants. This mechanical device offers increased range of motion and greater durability compared to standard cosmetic restorations used with osseointegrated implants.
The Point Thumb – OI is designed for patients with thumb loss who have received an osseointegrated implant and desire a more functional prosthetic attachment.
